The written word and the internal voice hold a lot of power.
When we say things out loud, we put our intentions into the world. Whether we mean to or not, for better or for worse, our words effect people. And our words effect ourselves.
Our thoughts also have an impact. Our minds are constantly running, moving, flowing. Thoughts come up, and sometimes they stick, sometimes they pass through. The stories we tell ourselves about our worth, who we are, how we should or should not be, end up making us into the people that we are.
With that in mind, we can see the importance of choosing our thoughts and words wisely. Which is why I want to share these five powerful affirmations with you today.
Affirmations restructure the thought patterns in our brains so that we truly begin to believe that nothing is impossible.
The original of the word “affirmation” comes from the Latin “affirmare,” meaning “to make steady, strengthen.” Research shows that practicing self-affirmation fires the reward centers in our brain. This can help people maintain balance and feel pleasure.
The following five powerful affirmations work best when repeated daily. They are words I try to live by. Words I choose to fill my mind and the world with, so I am paving my life path in the most positive way I can. Some of them may not speak to you, but I encourage you to try them out, and find other examples that will benefit you.
1. As within, so without.
This is one of my favorite sayings, and ties with why I wanted to write this post in the first place. It’s the idea that the things we think, our internal narrative, affects the things that come into our life, and our external state of being. And affects the things we put out into the world.
This was one of the first very profound spiritual realizations I had when I read The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle for the first time. This idea originates from the ancient Emerald Tablet, written sometime between the 6th and 8th centuries, but it was reading Tolle that I first discovered it.
If you are a positive person who thinks positive thoughts, then you will put positive energy into the world and that positivity will be reflected back to you. If you give love, to yourself and live your life in a state of love, then that love comes back.
We are a reflection of the world around us. We see ourselves reflected in the people we meet, in the relationships we build. So one of, if not thee, most important things is to start with your internal state of being. Find joy, find love, find positivity within. And watch how your world shifts.
2. My body is the garden of my soul.
We are living in this shared experience as human beings. This is our one body, possibly our one chance to learn, grow, express, love. Our human bodies are the home to our consciousness, our minds. It is within these bodies that we have the chance to explore the deeper meaning of self, of life, of purpose. Whatever “soul” means to you, it is true that our human body is where it resides.
Our bodies are the soil, the garden, the place of nurturing for our soul, for our consciousness, for our self. It is our job to care for these bodies and keep them healthy, so we’re able to pursue our highest purpose and bring good into the world.
This mantra comes from Deepak Chopra, and you can view the full words, with music, here.

3. Everything that is happening now is happening for my ultimate good.
Things happen. We label them “good” or “bad,” but in reality, they are just happening. They are part of our journey. Sometimes we don’t understand when something happens to us that might break out heart. As we transitioned into the New Year, I asked a lot of “What If” questions about things that happened to me in 2017. Things I didn’t understand. Decisions I feared I would regret. But I always come back to this powerful affirmation. “Everything that is happening now is happening for my ultimate good.”
4. I am safe in the center of my being.
Most of the things happening around us are out of our control. In reality, the only things we actually have control over are our thoughts, words, and actions. The person we spend more time with than anyone else is ourselves. We are safe when we sit with ourselves. We are safe inside our minds. We get to choose what we think.
Though it sometimes takes practice to build that inner space, to fill it with love and joy, know that at the end of the day, you are just a human having a human experience. And you are safe within the center of yourself.
5. I am the joyful expression of the abundance of the universe!
This affirmation is one of my favorites. There is so much abundance in this life. So often we get bogged down in the things that cause us stress and sadness and we forget about all that we have and all of the beauty that surrounds us. And we are part of that! I can’t help but get a smile on my face by the time I finish reading or saying this powerful affirmation out loud. I AM the joyful expression of the unlimited and expansive abundance of the Universe! And so are you.
