New Moon Intention Setting: January

Tonight the New Moon rises, and once again it’s time to set New Moon intentions.

I love doing this practice every 28 days. It’s a great reminder to take pause, evaluate where I’m at, try to be honest about what’s working and what’s not, and plan out where I want to go.

The time of the New Moon is powerful energetically – a time to let things go and set intentions for what we want to come.

It’s the first New Moon of 2018. Perhaps a couple of weeks ago you made some resolutions for this New Year. Now is a great time to revisit those and use this monthly exercise to break those larger resolutions into smaller steps, and set your specific intentions for the month.

The New Moon rises today in Capricorn.

There is a rare alignment this cycle of the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Saturn, and Pluto, all in the sign of Capricorn. This line up of so many planets indicates that this New Moon is going to bring a lot of earthy Capricorn energy. Capricorn is an Earth sign, and it holds the energy of hard work, leadership, determination, and grounding.

Capricorns are notoriously Do-ers, and the energy of this New Moon will help us with that — Taking Action and Getting Things Done!

From Forever Conscious:

“The January New Moon energy is really going to help all of us to take a leap forward and to use our hard work, skill, and knowledge to climb higher and reach further. This is the perfect time to take action in your life and begin making small, practical changes in order to bring more joy, abundance, love, success, and whatever other feel-good emotions you want into your life.”

I love the focus on doing, because often times people take issue with intention setting and manifestation because they disagree with the idea that you can write something down or glue an image on a vision board and expect it to come true. I agree. Simply wishing for something probably isn’t going to make it happen.

You have to put in the work if you want your dreams to come true.

Writing down your goals is the first step to achieving them, but you have to take the actions needed to make them a reality.

So, today, take step 1 by writing down your intentions for the next 28 days. And, as you do so, think about the steps you’ll need to take for those intentions to come true.

How to Set New Moon Intentions for January

Set aside 10-20 minutes, find a quiet space, and think about what you how to work on in the next month.

Write down 10 New Moon intentions, using the following guidelines:

  • Write them as if they have already manifested to give them more power. For example: “I eat food that nourishes my body and I am strong,” rather than “I try to be healthy.”
  • Intention number 1 should be something you hope for your friends, relatives, pets or anyone that needs personal healing energy.
  • Intentions number 2-9 should be personal, the things you want to work on or come true over the next 28-day cycle.
  • Intention number 10 is a wish for the world, Mother Earth, the animal kingdom. Your wish could be for peace, environmental healing, or just to a place where you want to send positive energy.

Once you write out your list of intentions, put them in a sacred place and read them often. While writing them down is the first step to making your goals a reality, reading them regularly reminds you of what you set out to do and helps you stay on track.
